During the 1970’s, there were a handful of Jain families in Navi Mumbai. Despite the small numbers, it was the wish of all to have a community place where everyone could come together for cultural activities. In 1982, CIDCO started giving plots to religious groups. We immediately applied for Jain society and got a plot in Sector 9A Vashi. A plot was allocated to us. Within a short span, amount of Rs.2.25 lakh was collected from Sthankawasi Jains, Murtipujak and Digambar Jains. After paying the amount to CIDCO, architect and contractor were hired to begun the construction work. The plot, located at the heart of Vashi next to the Bus Depot, brought Jains of all sects together.
